The US-Taiwan Workshop on Smart Structural Technology for Seismic Hazard Mitigation (SST/SHM) will be held on October 12-14, 2006, in Taipei. The purpose of this workshop is to develop possible collaborative research with researchers in Taiwan in order to advance the interfaced areas of earthquake engineering and smart structure technology, and to benefit both US and Taiwan. Also, the goal is to establish an action plan for possible joint research projects with Taiwan researchers, and the end product will be a workshop report consisting of the overview papers and the disciplinary view papers followed by the workshop recommendations.

The workshop will consist of three sessions, one on each day. The purpose of the first two sessions is to get familiar with the research topics of interested and importance to both U.S. and Taiwan researchers. These two sessions will consist of short presentations by panelists and contributors from both sides, as well as short discussion on topics of mutual interest. The panelist presentation will cover the state-of-the-art overview and research needs, while the contributor presentation will cover individual research areas and research needs. The third session is most important, involving the discussion and formulation of workshop recommendations to be included in the workshop report. Participation in the workshop will help shaping the collaborative research program with Taiwan.
